Event Details : Gallery Niv presents 'Movement, Medium and Metaphor' A laboratory of thoughts and materials. A group exhibition of 15 artists.

NIV Art Centre in New Delhi’s Neb Sarai, has offered an experimental space for the ‘play’ and ‘process’ aspects of art that are often left behind in today’s product-oriented world.
Fifteen artists have travelled from across the globe to be part of the two- month residency programme, at NIV Art Centre, helmed by Aruna and Shaji Mathew. NIV has hosted a number of exhibitions by prominent as well as emerging artists during the last three years. The residency currently comprises mid-career and emerging artists.
The mediums employed by the artists range from conventional forms of artistic expression, like sculptures made from wood and stone, oil on canvas and watercolour on paper. However, there are also experimental materials like found objects and scrap material that comprise some of the installations, printmaking techniques like woodcut and cyanotypes and digital or video art, which enhances the variety of experiences at the workshop space.
The concerns voiced by the artists range from environmental issues to more personal memories and narratives of love, melancholy and struggle. Sculptor Shailesh Ojha and painter Rahul Chauhan are from New Delhi, mixed media artists Pratap Morey and Nijeena Neelambaran are from Mumbai, painter and installation artist Koustav Nag is from Kolkata and printmaker Raymond Pereira lives in Kolkata but hails from Goa. Painters Nirali Lal and Prasad KP are Baroda-based. There are also artists from cities like Gwalior, Seema Kadam’s hometown, mixed media artist Naresh Kumar is from Patna, sculptor M Sreenu from Hyderabad and Somen Debnath from Agartala. New Media artist Laura Napier is from New York and painter Rose Di Salvo from Chicago. They add a cosmopolitan, global flavour to the residency, while mixed media artist Ilona Broeseliske from the Netherlands gives it a Western European twist.
