About the Artist : Born in Calcutta, Nibedita studied English Literature in Calcutta University. She started off her career with freelance journalism and then moved on to work with persons with disabilities. She worked as a ‘creative art therapist’ at the ‘Indian ‘Spinal Injuries Center’, New Delhi and worked with blind children at ‘National Association for the Blind’ in the capital and through her work she went through a new understanding of life. Soon she was drawn into fine arts. Her first solo happened in 1997 at ‘Gagenendra Pradarsha Shala’, Calcutta. She went to Germany to study about and work with the deaf-blind children in 2001. In the same year she had a solo show at The RWB, Essen, Germany. Her marriage in 2001 navigated her through the seven seas and thirteen rivers into a world of another new consciousness. And, as she voyaged through the blues with her master mariner husband she discovered and experiences the ‘awesome joy’ that surfaces only with  a deep communion between man and nature. After a long interlude Nibedita had a show of her paintings in 2007 at ‘Chemould Art Gallery’, Park Street, Calcutta. She had a group show at the Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta in May 2010 and had another show in the same year at Rabindra Bhavan, Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi. In this solo show she will showcase her visual experiences that grew inward into what one might call the everlasting mystique light…
She works and lives in Gurgaon.

Nibedita’s  everlasting Sea …
By Keshav Malik
In the azure of the sea is the awesome beauty. Awesome, and that what brings on a sense of the profound to any human who has cast off anchor and is adrift towards no island, but is in search of an absolute solitude of spirit.
Well, that is what Nibedita has done. Being at sea for long enough periods, she has very simply, and unaffectedly, caught the truth of the vast, chartless saline waters of the planet earth. And, I believe, with each moving ship she has sailed, she in turn moves us, no little, to know ourselves.
Herewith, hesitantly, I inscribe one of my own poems on the element from which all creatures are said to have surfaced towards the sun!
