Event Details : A three day festival of theatrical performances organized by Jawaharlal Nehru University:
2nd September : 'Dastangoi' - Presented by Mahmood Farooqui, Danish Hussain and their team.
On the 2nd of September, we shall have Mahmood Farooqui and Danish Hussain and/or their team to sweep the crowd into the enticing magic of the performance of poetry in Dastangoi. Dastangoi is an ancient form of story-telling that originated from Persia and was lost after the advent of the British rule in India. Very recently, Mahmood Farooqui and Danish Hussain revived this fascinating art form of oral-dramatic-narration and they are enchanting the nation with these captivating tales.
3rd September : 'Gandhi Park' - A play presented by Wings Cultural Society.
'Gandhi Park' explores the issue of eventual displacement of human beings due to socio-economical, socio-political and cultural reasons, the issue of identity and the sense of belonging. It initiates a debate over these issues in the light of several examples from across the world.
The play takes a dig at the normative rules that people adhere to in order to get accepted by the society and often forget to reflect upon their consciousness.
Gandhi Park revolves around three people in a park and their fight over the only three benches there. Their conversational debate makes one laugh and forces one to think about what is it that counts as a mark of territorial entitlement — caste, city, region, religion? Or is it something more ephemeral?
4th September : 'Chand Roz Aur Meri Jaan' - A poetic recitation presented by Salima Raza and Danish Iqbal.
One of the most powerful actresses on the Indian stage, Salima Raza along with Danish Iqbal, will cast a spell on the crowd with beautiful poetry and magical music weaved into the performance of reciting letters exchanged between Faiz Ahmed Faiz and his wife, on the 4th of September. Entitled ‘Chand Roz aur Meri Jaan’, Salima Raza will breathe life into this prose and poetry and will mesmerize the audience with the magic of her performance.
