Sahitya Akademi Award winner Arun Joshis acclaimed novel The Strange Case of Billy Biswas is eerily contemporary even though it was written 30 years ago -- a story of passion, love, tragedy and conflict between the state, the powerless tribals and the mystical, mysterious forces of nature -- set in the jungles of Chhattisgarh.
Jalabala Vaidya and Anasuya Vaidya have recreated &Billy Biswas into a stage production that is powerful, erotic and heart-rending.
Billy Biswas is a bright young anthropologist, a rising star in academic circles, a regular at society dinners and son of a Supreme Court Justice, until one day, on assignment deep in the tribal jungles, he simply vanishes. Many years later, his best friend Romi is posted to the same region as a District Collector, and the secret of Billy Biswas comes to light with a power that is mystic, erotic, primeval and tragic.
While Sunit Tandon plays Romi and Zahed Khan plays Billy Biswas, Jalabala Vaidya plays Billy's alter ego and Nisa Schette plays Bilasia, the woman who symbolises the primeval life force of the forest. Sudhir Tandon plays Dhunia, the tribal village headman and Sachin Sikri plays Inspector Rele.
Gopal Sharman's original compositions throb with the musical life-blood of forest-dwelling tribals, for whom dance, music and mahua are essential to the enjoyment of life.
& Billy Biswas is a rare production based on an outstanding Indian book with a powerful story to tell.

Excellent play!! Portrays todays conlflicts with the govt and and various societies in our country.
