Event Details : Ananth presents a week long celebration of Shakespeare in the form of two workshops:
"Playing Shakespeare" is an introduction to Shakespeare for 14 to 17 year-olds. The emphasis will be on 'playing' Shakespeare - to bring alive the brilliance of his language and imagery in the body through rhythm, games, gesture, movement, voice-and-speech work,music, acrobatics, and partner and group-work. A unique aspect of the workshop will be a very 'Indian' approach to Shakespeare, drawn from Kalaripayattu, Bharatnatyam, folk and devotional songs and various breath and voice techniques. There will also be a lot of self-exploratory work through guided meditation and group work. Participants will work on fragments from Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Meeting Shakespeare, is a workshop for adults who are interested in exploring Shakespeare from a contemporary perspective - to find in his words reflections of our day and age, and thus find in him our own truths. It is of special interest to college and university students, teachers in schools and colleges, and actors, but is open to everyone. The workshop will use the text of Macbeth, and will employ voice and breath work, movement, meditation, self and group work, discussions and screenings, to bring alive the essence of the play in a contemporary, practical and engaging way.
