Event Details : 'Knock Out' Japanese film screening.
Eiji Adachi, who dreamed of a boxer since his childhood, achieves his goal of becoming a champion,
only to lose his title in a match against Eagle Tomoda. Worse he is seriously injured and forced to
retire.
Angrily leaving the small National Gym where he once trained, he opens his own gym in partnership
with a wealthy boxing devotee. Initially, it is successful and one day a middle-aged man appears and
offers his service as a coach. He is Makiko Sajima a farmer welter class champion and Adachi Decides
to hire him.
Eventually, however, the boxing trainees begin to leave unable to accept Adachi’s autocratic and
violent ways of teaching. The real problem, of course is that Eiji Adachi cannot forget the sound of the
bell, and still wants to box himself.
After much painful soul-searching he decides to make a comeback. Making his peace with Kamoi, the
owner of the National Gym where he had started and reconciliation with his old girlfriend Takako,
Kamoi’s daughter he returns to begin training with Sajima as his coach.
Gradually Sajima becomes worried about his condition for he is convinced Adachi is facing certain
death by returning to the ring- and so he leaves.
Ironically Adachi’s first match is with Kiyoto, his former sparring mate at the National. Just before the
match he again meets Eagle Tomoda, who has retired due to an eye problem.
It is a brutal fight and those who know Eiji’s condition fear for his life. It comes to the point where
a desperate Takako finally throws in the towel- but at that very moment Eiji delivers a decisive
knockout punch.
