Anu Malhotra is one of India's top Producer – Directors, having won over 16 National and International awards and her first love has always been documentary films. Her films are in fact seminal works showcasing remote cultures, as she has the astonishing ability of gaining unique access to people and places most others cannot even conceive of, time and again. Having already redefined the landscape of documentary cinema with her path-breaking and thought-provoking films “The Apatani of Arunachal Pradesh”, “The Konyak of Nagaland”, “The Maharaja of Jodhpur”,and Anu’s latest film, “Shamans of the Himalayas”. Anu believes that ‘the journey is the destination’ and as such, her films with their journey-like-process have become, without a doubt, cinematic destinations in themselves. They are a tribute to India‘s infinite diversity, unveiling a country to itself and the world.
While capturing breath-taking landscapes and the vast cultural diversity of India on film, Anu interest and expertise in the visual form propelled her to capture some indelible moments during her travels, in photographs.
The series of photographs are a corollary to and embedded in her more encompassing documentary work. While her films on indigenous cultures showcase the larger cultural life of peoples, her photographs capture individual manifestation of these cultures in more immediate, intimate and spontaneous moments.
