The play depicts the eccentricities of human mind and how we often ignore, neglect or even push away true love. The play begins with a deserted cremation ground and four men who have come to do the last rites of a dead, orphan, young woman. Suddenly, a fifth person also appears – the dead girl who rises from the burning pyre. She had committed suicide because of her frustration of not being able to find true love in her life. While waiting, these four men discuss the incidents in the life of this girl and meander towards the incidents of their own lives. The dead girl provokes them to reflect about the women who came into their lives and met painful deaths because of the injustice meted out by these men. Anguish and regret overwhelm them and one is left wondering why men often fail to understand and respond to true love.
