Event Details : 'Reverberation' solo art show by Somnath Adhikary.

Life plays with myriad hues at once bright and sparkling, and at other times sullen and dull or harsh and violent. As an artist, one has to experience all these moods, which in turn influence every creative out pouring. Life for me has been a challenging journey in which I have experienced contrasting emotions strongly influencing any thought process. My paintings are chroniclers of my journey through various phases of life. Lines, strokes and colours have merged together to recount incidents and experiences as naturally as possible. Even though my paintings are not intended to make any socio political statements, they are never the less conscious and deliberate expressions of my observation.

    The amazement with which I have witnessed people embrace weapons, rather than knowledge, to empower themselves, get suitable conveyed “TO APPLY FORCE”. Like Bramha, the protagonist of my paintings wants to rule the world wielding the chakra will the people really succeed in this way for the upcoming centuries? Another painting “THE AFFECTION” reveals the loving relationship between a mother and her child. I am deeply touched by this inexpressible and silent relationship. This loving relationship should be merged with every phases of life and our visible nature.

    My thoughts reverberates of our visible nature and the social life through strokes and colours. My painting do certainly touched upon volatile topics, but are retold with my typical mellow and delicate brush work. Being a compilation of various incidents. They are open to individual interpretations inspiring the viewers to think beyond the captured moment.

    I would like to focus on another attraction; it is one of very own experimental invention. I have used wooden surface in most of my paintings instead of paper or canvas. I have created my paintings as per the shape of wooden ring tissue without breaking their natural character. I have tried to link between the tunes and melodies of the rings with nature. I hope this would be my semi realistic paintings a different margin. A few instances of this images are “THE ANGEL”, “LORD GANESHA”, “FLUTE MUSIC”, “THE DUCK”, “HORSE RIDER” and many more.
