While examining aesthetics in the context of globalization, this documentary explores the life and work of painter Natvar Bhavsar, a pioneer who paved the way for subsequent generations of artists. The central theme of the film is the multicultural nature of his work and how that has influenced the trajectory of his career from his upbringing in India to his move to New York City, the nerve center of culture and the arts. In time, Bhavsar was interacting closely with such artistic luminaries as Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, and Clyfford Still. The first of its kind, this film is not only a history of one artist’s life, but also a celebration of the Asian diasporic community and its contribution to American contemporary art.
