Event Details : 'Transient Reality' An exhibition of art work by Barun Chowdhury and Chippa Sudhakar.

The narratives around man- animal interface are twisted and turned around in Barun Chowdhury’s colorful dramatic canvases. For this Kolkata and Baroda trained artist, the underlying streaks of socio- political- environmental concerns are central to the stories articulated in his work that come in a mix of wit and solemnity and of reality and fantasy.  Adorning a liberal dose of popular cultural forms and various creatures, his painterly work in the exhibition focuses on the transient reality of connections between the man and the beast.  

People and interpersonal relationships are central to much of Sudhakar Chippa’s work that comes as human figures staged in a range of media- be it prints, paintings, works on wood or utilitarian art objects such as the pair of chairs in this show.  Trained at art colleges in Hyderabad and Baroda, his work in the current series, explores the concept of individual perception akin to barcode that needs to be applied to fathom the transient reality encoded in the work.  

Both the artists juxtapose past with the present and their personal experiences with social encounters, each in his distinct genre. Blending contemporary icons with traditional forms; and memories with emotions, the textural nuance of their imagery though varied, is marked for its theatricality. The transient reality of contemporary life, in Barun’s case is represented in the form of man’s animal instinct, whilst in Sudhakar’s work it appears cloaked as the barcode.
