Event Details : 'My Quest For Eternal Source' an exhibition of paintings by Poonam Malik.
Artist's Comment : What is the cause of Existence? Where the whole Universe consisting of animate and inanimate objects springs from and finally merges into? What is the fundamental behind the Eternal Existence? What is beyond what meets the senses?
            I was a student of science, an objective realm, contrary to the infinite that we are. Unknowingly I would drift to my inner self. Eating, sleeping, procreating is all we are born for? Who am I? Why am I here? These myriad queries seemed too difficult and esoteric in the objective realm I lived during my student life. All these inner questions needed an answer & expression for quenching my thirst.
           As destiny would have it, I got married to a forest officer. Being wife of a forest officer, I got the opportunity to be in the remote forest areas. The milieu suddenly changed from the object to the subject. At this juncture, I happened to meet another artist, Mr R.S. Shakya, and with his guidance and the grace of providence, my journey as an artist took began and I transcended into a new world.
           In deep forests, on remote hills and near snow peaks, I felt not only human life but also entire existence is completely dependent on that Supreme Source. I started expressing this truth through colors on canvass. Things and people may belong to me but I belong to something else found an expression. Quintessentially, my paintings are a reflection of my understanding of myself and my relation to that source, the object of creation, cause and effect, elements of life and…..
         Painting has not been just an expression for me; it has served as a bridge between me and the Creation.
        At this stage of life, I am deeply engrossed in strengthening this connection. Life could not have been more satisfying.
