Event Details : Eco – Puran by Dr. Sonal Mansingh.
The living legend of dance Dr Sonal Mansingh, honoured with Padma Vibhushan by the President of India, is a master of Bharatanatyam and Odissi, two of the oldest dance styles of India. Her professional career now spans five decades. Her innovative ideas have given new and broader dimension to the repertories of these two dance styles.
Sonal Mansingh has offered a new repertory annually around India’s Republic Day since past two decades. This year she offers her concern for global problems of ecology and disharmony in environment through stories and legends from indic lore. Eco or ecology is the much discussed word in contemporary context. Purana refers to stories and episodes from history, which become part of the collective memory of a culture. Eco-Puran decodes and demystifies our myths and legends which are as relevant today as any of our modern-day lingo and jargon.
This programme presents story of a crow highlighting a famous saying of Mahatma Gandhi “there is enough for everybody’s need but there is not enough for everybody’s greed.” Another episode relates to the pollution of River Yamuna. The imbalance in Himalayan ecology completes the trilogy.
