Event Details : Screening of the film 'Hotel Meina'. 

The film is based on real facts narrated in a book by Marco Nozza. Meina on Lake Maggiore, September 1943 - a group of 16 Italian Jews, evacuated from Greece, are brought to stay at the Meina Hotel owned by the Benars, a family of Jews from Turkey, a neutral country. On 8th September, day of the armistice between the Allies and Italy, an SS armed division led by Commandant Krassler arrives in Meina. Two youngsters Noa Benar and Julien Fendez, desperately in love, are rudely interrupted by the Nazi squad. The Jews are imprisoned in the Hotel and from there begins a week of never ending wait, fright, uncertainty and hope. It is a strange coexistence of the host Jews, guests at the Hotel and the SS. There is a discussion on the possible escape. The Germans themselves are awaiting orders. Even for them it is like the end of war. But then a telegram comes from Milan: Krassler has to immediately eliminate the prisoners…
