Event Details : Seven Arts Limited in collaboration with Experimenter present the first ever showing of The Otolith Group in India. The Otolith Group was founded in 2000, in London, by its core members, Anjalika Sagar and Kodwo Eshun.
Recently nominated for the Turner Prize 2010, the group works with media archives, histories of futurity, the legacies of non-alignment and tri-continentalism. The Group's artistic work explores the moving image, sound and text and also functions internationally as a public platform for curatorial practice and discussion on contemporary artistic production.
Otolith’s films and installations have featured widely in international exhibitions including, Gasworks, UK, Documenta 12: Kassel; The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; 2nd International Biennial of Contemporary Art, Seville; 60 Years of British Art, Hayward Gallery, London, The Second ICP Triennial of Photography and Video, New York, Destroy Athens: The Athens Biennial, and the Tate Triennial, London.
The Otolith group will present its most significant work so far, The Otolith Trilogy that are crucial films that the group has made in its career, which have spawned other tertiary creations. However the trilogy is the core body of work that has catapulted them as the foremost exponents in the world for new media contemporary art.
Starting December, 2010, after they premiere with their first show at Experimenter, Kolkata, The Otolith Group will be touring India through New Delhi at Seven Arts Ltd in January 2011 and Mumbai at Project 88 in February 2011. This is a unique opportunity for the Indian audiences to interact with the most progressive, cutting edge work in visual arts today.
