Event Details : 'Bankers and Nomads in Afghanistan and the Uzbek Khanates: The Nineteenth Century' a talk by Dr. Arup Banerji, Professor of Russian and Soviet History, Department of History, University of Delhi
Histories of India’s commercial relations with her neighbours have tended to a lack of study in this area. The lecture will look at India’s trade with the Uzbek khanates of Bukhara, Khiva and Khokhand in the 19th century where Sindhi bankers were the principal source of capital for this trade, even as Afghan nomadic caravaneers constantly served as the carriers of goods in this commercial quadrant.
