Description:
The walk will take you to some popular nurseries of Delhi. In the spirit of The Genda Phool Project, to encourage you to hone your green thumb, we will take you to the green zones of the capital, where you can buy plants, seeds and gardening equipment.
In the true and quintessential genda spirit, we will start the walk by visiting the Mehrauli Phool Mandi (flower market). The historical flower markets of Delhi are slated to soon be history, since the government of Delhi is relocating all the flower markets of Delhi, in a very myopic vein.
We will visit two government nurseries and one or more private nurseries. Chiragh nursery in Chiragh Dilli will be our first haunt. Next, we will visit Sunder Nursery in Nizamuddin, spread over 70 acres, and also India’s largest nursery. Sunder Nursery is also fascinating in that the nursery complex houses many historical monuments.
Finally, we will go to Rajdhani Nursery in Jorbagh, a private nursery, which has a very different feel to it than the other two.
We hope to have an army of green genda gardeners with us for this one! It will be lovely to explore the plants of the Indian summer and plan for Genda plantations with you this winter.
Itinerary
8 am – Collect at meeting point. Please be on time. Since we need to keep time, we will be unable to wait for latecomers.
8.15 am - 9 am – Explore the Phool Mandi (flower market) at Mehrauli.
9.15 am – 9.45 am – Chirag Nursery, Chirag Dilli
10.15 – 11.15 am – Sunder Nursery, Nizamuddin
11.30 am – 12 Noon – Private nurseries in Jorbagh / Khan Market
12:30 pm – Walk finishes at PVR Saket
