Event Details : Habitat Children's Book Forum presents 7th Annual Event.
As you might be aware, this event allows us to celebrate books on a larger scale and welcome a bigger group of children into the Book Forum. Hence, we look forward to active participation from everyone. Once again, this year we have a variety of activities for different age groups. Our sponsors Scholastic India will put up a book stall as well, to make their titles available to readers.
Schedule :
Morning:
9 am -12.30 pm at the Amphitheatre
Welcome and introduction
Book Parade--a recap of all the books featured in the last year through posters of the covers.
Activity for 6-8 years age group-'Create a newspaper'
Book Launch--How to Get Your Child to Read by Deepa Agarwal and Devika Rangachari, published Scholastic India
Awards to outstanding librarians and schools
Literary Quiz for 9-12 age group
Music performance by Jack Thomas author of Music is my Aeroplane and his students
Afternoon:
3.30 pm to 5.30 pm at the Open Palm Court Room
Librarians Workshop
Ms. Vatsala Zutshi, Librarian, Step-by Step School, will share activities that have proved successful in reading promotion.
We would like to explain a little about the activity for the 6-8 age group. We are focusing on the Geronimo Stilton series published by Scholastic. This fascinating character is a mouse who brings out a newspaper.
Children will have to create the front page of a newspaper. You can ask them to think about what items are present on the front page e.g. title of newspaper, date, headlines, news articles--political, entertainment, sports related, weather etc. and use their imagination to create one. Instead of photos, they can illustrate the news items.
They will have 30 minutes for the activity so it would be nice if they practised a bit beforehand.
This is not a competitive activity--we just want them to have fun and use their imagination. However, they will receive participation certificates.
Sheets of paper will be distributed but they can bring their own writing materials.
