Event Details : Indo-Tibetan Art & Culture Group presents 'Kasyapas in Ancient Sacred Literatures and Art' an illustrated lecture by Mr. Manoj Kumar
In the proposed talk the descriptions and depictions of Kasyapas appeared during different points of time in Ancient India will be focused. From the most ancient text of the world that is Rigveda down to other various Brahmanical and Buddhist sacred literatures detailed description of Purana, Nadi, Uruvela, Gaya, Maha and Kumara Kasyapas and their life styles are found. The vivid depictions of some of them are also noticed in the ancient monuments such as Sanchi, Mathura, Gandhara. On the basis of available information the presentation will be made.
Mr. Manoj Kumar is Curator, Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, an archaeological museum in Hardwar. He obtained his Masters from Patna University, specializing in field archaeology, and stood first in his P.G. Diploma in Archaeology from the Institute of Archaeology, Archaeological Survey of India. Recent projects include directing and documenting excavations at Garhi Shyampur (Dehradun) and other explorations in Hardwar, and the archaeology of Kurkihar and its neighbourhood, where he has discovered several pieces of architecture and sculpture. He has also worked on the archaeological atlas for the Indus-Saraswati civilizations.
