Event Details : 'Colours of India' an exhibition of paintings by Chaitali Chatterjee.
This exhibition features paintings by Chaitali Chatterjee, a Delhi-based artist, which depict the profusion of colours that India has to offer. The works are a combination of realism fantasy in which the artist specialises. Rivers, trees, birds, animals and ordinary people of India provide the variety shown in these paintings in oil on canvas and mixed media. This is Chaitali’s first solo exhibition this year and the ninth of her career. Being a Bengali, Chaitali draws her inspiration from the traditional rangoli art of the Bengal. Among modern trends, she has been most influenced by Fauvism.
Chaitali’s paintings are colourful and “happy”. Her emphasis is on colours, bold lines and form. She succeeds in infusing a dreamy spirit in her works. Her works can be said to occupy the middle ground between realism and abstraction. She has executed many paintings, oil as well as watercolour, which have been displayed at private and group shows. Some of her paintings are part of private collections in India and abroad.
Chaitali is a graduate of the College of Art, Delhi and learnt art from teachers many of whom were renowned artists like Bimal Dasgupta, Manjeet Singh Bawa and Biswanath Mukherjee.
Above all the paintings are very reasonably priced.
