Event Details : Introducing The Yellow Brick Project's Musical Dance Production 2010, "Dear Delhi"
The Yellow Brick Project is a Performer’s Collective of Young People in Delhi with a dual philosophy: Firstly, to make different genres of dance, accessible to wider audiences, through a narrative, which people of all ages and varying levels of dance experience will easily understand and enjoy. Secondly, to provide young people with an opportunity to participate in the dance, music, production and management aspects of the project.
We successfully staged our first production “Razzle Dazzle” at Kamani Auditorium in 2009, structured on a simple, humorous and entertaining storyline which interweaved three popular fairytales – Cinderella, Snow White and Rumplestiltskin.
Following the great response, we are now presenting our second dance production "Dear Delhi". This year, we explore different interpretations of how Delhi falls in (and out) of Love, showcasing a series of short love stories exploring the lives & times of the diverse people of DELHI.
We request you to do a feature story on "Dear Delhi"
- Youth Initiative:
A team of 70 young people (15 to 25 years), mostly all students, are executing the entire show - from choreography and dance, to sets & costume design, film-making and event management & communication strategies.
- Storytelling through Dance:
The project encourages creative experimentation and expression, interweaving different dance and musical styles including Contemporary, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Latin Styles, Ballroom and Classical Indian Dance Forms, complimented by film, audiovisuals and elaborate stage set-up.
- Magic of Delhi:
The niche theme of "Dear Delhi" will recreate a small glimpse into Delhi, with its characteristic sights, sounds & places, including the Delhi Metro; School & University Life; Chandni Chowk, Connaught Place & Paharganj; Parks & Gardens; Nightclubs; Traffic on Delhi Roads; Corporate Offices in Gurgaon & Noida.
Narrated through the diverse experiences of its people, there's something for every audience to relate to - from high school students & college professors to the corporate world & middle class working person, from car parking attendants to people who've come to Delhi from different states; from single women, to homosexual couples to old age - everyone has experienced love in some form or another.
We aim to touch all people that have lived and experienced Delhi, as well as tourists who want to explore the flavors of Delhi.
- Publicity:
With the emergence of TV reality shows and talent hunts centered on music & dance (So you think you can dance, Dance India Dance, Indian Idol) there is a palpable growing enthusiasm and appreciation of different genres of dance, as evident from the raging TRP's and increased participation.
The Yellow Brick Project has already received an overwhelming response, and our goal is to reach out to maximum number of people in exciting, new & innovative ways, which are cost effective and environment friendly. Among other things, we are planning a 1-minute "flash mob dance" of 50 - 100 young people, to be executed in popular places in the city to raise support for the production.
- Partnerships:
Choreography is being mentored by The Big Dance Centre, under the aegis of directors Atul Jindal & Karan Kumar
(www.bigdancecentre.com) and Music is by Clarence Gonsalves, bassist for popular youth band “Them Clones”.

Concept Note and Vision : Dance has been an integral part of human culture since the beginning of civilization. Across cultures, we can identify social dances, which commemorate special occasions, or magical/religious dances or even interpretations of popular stories to preserve tradition. Eventually dance was separated from its ritual basis and has become an art of its own.
