Event Description : Sangeet Natak Akademi presents "Ram Shankar and Party, Mumbai : Jashn-e-Qawwali 2014, Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal" video screening as part of Sanchayan - Screening of archival films & video recordings.
Ram Shankar was born and brought up in a musical family at Mumbai. His father late Shankar and his uncle late Shambhu were the renowned Sufi and classical singer duo “Shankar Shambhu Qawwal”.
Ram Shankar started training in Indian classical music and light music under his father and uncle from the tender age of five years.
He has given many performances of Sufi music, Ghazals, Bhajans and Qawwalis in all the major
cities of India, and in countries aboard like the U.S.A., U.K., U.A.E., Canada, Rome, Fiji, etc. He has many recordings to his credit. As a playback singer Ram Shankar has sung for many Hindi feature films such as Sanwariya, Bichchhu, Aastha, Jaanwar, Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharni, Judge Mujrim, Ganga Ki Saugandh, etc. He has also given music direction for Hindi feature films like Sparsh “the touch”, Dil Bhi Kya Cheez Hai, Arjun Deva, Khatron Ke Khiladi.
Background : Over the past six decades, Sangeet Natak Akademi has built up an archive of audio and video tapes, photographs, slides and films on the performing arts.
