Event Description : The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee presents “Khalsa Delhi Fateh Diwas” to commemorate the contribution of great Sikh warriors who took part in the freedom struggle for the nation. This initiative is aimed at awareness about the contribution of Sikh war veterans to the younger generations and people at large.
“Khalsa Delhi Fateh Diwas” celebration will commence from 7 p.m. on 8th March, 2014 and end on 9th March, 2014. The celebrations and relevant events are being organized at August Kranti Maidan, Red Fort, Delhi.
According to history, Baba Baghel Singh was a powerful military general during the 18th century when times were turbulent. In February 1764, a body of 30,000 Sikhs under the command of Baghel Singh and other leading warriors crossed the Yamuna and captured Saharanpur. They arrived in Delhi on 8 March, 1783 and thereafter the Sikhs entered the Red Fort and captured the Diwan-e-Am. Thereafter, the Mughal emperor Shah Alam II made a settlement with them agreeing to allow Baba Baghel Singh to raise Gurudwaras on Sikh historical sites in the city and receive six annas in a rupee (37.5%) of all the octroi duties in the capital.
During these historic celebrations, “Khalsa Delhi Fateh March” is being organized on Sunday, 9th March, 2014 from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. The march will commence from Fatehpuri Chandni chowk and shall end at Gyan Path, in the vicinity of Red Fort. The march will portray the contribution and identity of freedom fighters and various ethnic groups and organizations, who have been invited to showcase their tradition and culture in this march.
