Event Description : 'Faith 2013' An Exhibition of Contemporary Mysore Paintings By Heerina Misra.
The highlight of Misra’s art works is her resolve to maintain the sanctity of each depiction by recreating each element of the legend and/or scripture related to the deity being illustrated while adding her own contemporary touches. Over the years Heerina has succeeded in evolving her own distinct style while using mediums like stone textures mixed with gloss, adding more dimensions to make the deities more lifelike etc. Her use of colors as dictated by the Mysore style of painting with respect to different gods and goddesses, the generous additions of 24 Karat gold (as and when permissible keeping in step with traditional guidelines) and her skill of bringing a legend to life via her visually astounding art works comes together to reiterate Vedic tales of yore.
In 2005, while nursing her ailing mother who was suffering from cancer, Heerina was witness to the suffering of those less fortunate. Heerina was in awe of the work of TATA Memorial and wanted to do something back for the near miracle they did by saving her mother’s life from 3rd stage cancer. In 2011, Heerina hosted her first solo exhibition, entitled “FAITH” in New Delhi. The proceeds from the sale were donated by her to TATA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL to treat and provide medication for the under privileged suffering from Cancer. The city welcomed the effort and celebrated the arrival of a true artist, one that cared for the world she lived in and chose her art as a medium to help those that she shared it with.
