About the Museum : Now, running in its third year, KNMA is dedicated to promote the use of its Collection for education, exhibition and research. It is also playing a significant role as a participant in the cultural life of the city. In order to activate the museum as a site of for visual and intellectual dialogue we are developing innovative programming and seeking active collaborations. The current location of the Museum in the mall helps us navigate the current mass visual culture and co-relate it with the artworks from different time-periods, to understand the phenomenon of modernity itself.
About KNMA and its Collection:
Established at the initiative of the avid collector Kiran Nadar, KNMA opened in January 2010, as the first private museum of Art exhibiting Modern and Contemporary works from India and the subcontinent. A non-commercial, not-for-profit organisation, the Museum intends to exemplify the dynamic relationship between art and culture through its exhibitions, publications, educational and public programs. Reaching out to diverse groups of audience, KNMA aspires to be a ‘people-centred’ and ‘action oriented’ space. The growing permanent Collection of KNMA is largely focused on significant trajectories of Modern and Contemporary Indian Art. It highlights a magnificent generation of Indian painters from the early decades of the 20th century and equally engages the disparate art practice of the younger contemporaries. The Collection will be eventually housed in a landmark building that will make art viewing a stimulating and memorable visual experience.
