"A Geometry in Colours" An Exhibition of Paintings by B. Narayanan at AIFACS - 1st to 7th July 09

Event Details : An Exhibition of Paintings by B. Narayanan.
A painting need not be, always, a representation of reality : after all, we are in the digital age, where every single detail of reality is captured in incredible resolution, with digital cameras and camcorders. A painting, can be, simply, an exploration of colour and form, an arrangement of paint on canvas, to evoke a feeling, a mood in the mind of the viewer. The greenness of green colour, the orangeness of orange colour, or the blueness of blue are legitimate areas for an artist to explore, without seeking to connect them to real-life images, to “conventionalize” them, so to say.
But abstract art cannot be an end in itself: it needs to communicate, to reach out, to create, in the viewer, the sense of wonder that the artist feels when he first visualized the arrangement. Abstract art needs an inspiration: a fantastic riot of colour in a garden, the straight lines of a brick wall, the swirls of water eddies or the atmosphere of a place. Sometimes, too, the colour and form of nature is so extra-ordinary that the artist extracts the abstract out of it, by distilling its essence.
The paintings exhibited in the exhibition, “Geometry in Colours” explores bright colours and striking form, just for the sheer pleasure of it: pleasing the viewer, as the colours and form pleased the artist while creating them.
The artist, B.Narayanan, is an amateur artist, who has been painting for the last seven years. An officer of the 1989 batch of the Indian Information Service, he is currently posted as Director (IEC) in the Ministry of Rural Development.
