DE- Do you have formal artistic qualifications?
AJ- I hold formal artistic qualifications, including a Diploma in Fine Arts and a master’s degree in Drawing and Painting. These credentials highlight my expertise and dedication to the field, reflecting a comprehensive understanding of both practical techniques and theoretical concepts in art.

DE- What was your first experience of working as a professional artist?
AJ- My first experience working as a professional artist was wonderful It allowed me to apply my formal education – a diploma in Fine Arts  and  master’s in Drawing and Painting – practically, enriching my skills and confirming my passion for creating art in a professional setting

DE- Which mediums do you use for creating art?
AJ- I usually prefer working with acrylic and pen, as they allow for bold expression and detailed precision in my artwork. However, other mediums such as watercolour and charcoal. And oil paints are also among my favourites. Each medium offers unique qualities and challenges that inspire creativity and versatility in my work, enabling me to explore different textures, effects and techniques. This diversity keeps my artistic practice dynamic and continually evolving.

DE- What is your favourite time of day to create and why?
AJ- There is no fixed time to create a painting. Inspiration can strike at any moment and the creative process flows uniquely with each piece. Sometimes a painting comes together quickly, while other times it unfolds slowly, requiring patience and reflection. Each work has its own  rhythm and timeline

DE- Can you describe your ideal working environment?
AJ- My ideal working environment is a well-lit, spacious studio with ample natural light and minimal distractions. It includes a variety of art supplies, inspiring music and a comfortable space to reflect and experiment.

DE- What motivates you to create art?
AJ- I am motivated to create art by the desire to express emotions, tell stories, and capture the beauty of the world around me. The process of transforming ideas into visual forms is deeply fulfilling. and the ability to inspire and connect with others through my artwork.

DE- What are your career goals?
AJ -Using art to help those affected by leprosy is a deeply fulfilling endeavour. By organising exhibitions and selling artworks, I can raise funds to support treatment and rehabilitation programs. Art therapy sessions can provide emotional healing and a sense of empowerment to patients. Additionally, raising awareness through artistic expression helps to reduce stigma and promote understanding, contributing to the overall well-being and social integration of individuals affected by leprosy.

DE- How do you handle constructive criticism?
AJ- I handle constructive criticism with an open mind and a positive attitude. I see it as an opportunity to grow and improve my skills. By thoughtfully considering feedback, I can refine my techniques and expand my perspective, ultimately enhancing the quality and depth of my artistic work.

DE- Do you think art is important to society? 
AJ- Art is important to society because it fosters creativity, cultural expression, and emotional connection. It reflects and challenges societal values. provokes thought and inspires change. Art also preserves history, tells diverse stories, and enhances the aesthetic quality of our environments, enriching our collective human experience.

DE -Who are your biggest influences?
AJ- One of my biggest influences in art is Jamini Roy whose work profoundly impacted my approach and understanding of art. His thematic depth and ability to evoke emotion have inspired me a lot.

DE- Do you have a favourite artist?.
AJ- My favourite artists include Van Gogh and Picasso for their bold innovation and emotional depth, which continually inspire my creative vision.
