It's a story of a young clerk, Aracy de Carvalho, at the Brazilian Consulate where she secretly issues passports to Jews without the deadly 'J' stamp which is a live saviour for them but risky for herself. A newly hired diplomat, Joao Guimaraes Rosa, arrives there and both fall in love with each other. Aracy would later be awarded honored by the Yad Vashem with the Righteous Among the Nations Award while Joa would become the greatest Brazilian writer of the twentieth century.
