SPIC MACAY offers Shradhanjali to Sangeet Martand Padma Vibhushan Pt. Jasraj

Sangeet Martand Padma Vibhushan Pt. Jasraj has left us for his heavenly abode today on 17th August 2020.

SPIC MACAY offers its Shradhanjali and its deepest condolences at the passing away of the legend of Indian Classical Music.

Panditji had a larger than life personality, and was a great master of the Mewati Gharana of Classical Music,  but was also a wonderful human being. He left us at the age of 90 years.

Dr Kiran Seth, founder of the SPIC MACAY movement, sent his message on the passing away of great Pandit Jasraj. He said - 

"We all know that Pandit Jasraj was a great musician, but he was also a very giving person. I remember when I first went to meet him in the 70's requesting him to perform for the students not having any money and he heard me out and he said that he will help us, that he would perform for the young persons. It was because of people like him, great artists like him, who agreed without asking us, what we would be able to give them, in the early phases of Spic Macay that we were able to draw in so many other artists and take this movement to where it is today. I bow my head in reverence and also in remembrance of this lovely great human being".

 

Panditji inspired thousands of students and music lovers worldwide with his divine music recitals, with a sonorous voice spanning 4 octaves.

In an association with SPIC MACAY spanning more than 3 decades, his performances at various SPIC MACAY conventions and numerous events like Music In The Park has regaled the students and Rasikas alike in schools and colleges around the country and abroad.

During this journey, he has inspired thousands of SPIC MACAY volunteers, nurturing them to take the movement ahead in the country, in his own friendly inimitable style.

Reminiscing one of this performances in Bhubaneshwar Odisha one volunteer says, ” I'll never forget that day with Pandit Jasraj ji. He gave us plentiful time in his hotel room even after singing for two hours. He patiently listened to each and every one. Another Baithak got going there with Sniti Mishra ji singing and Pandit ji giving his kind comments. Such was his persona, one felt like being in divine presence "

A senior National Coordinator of SPICMACAY mentioned, "Shocked to learn that Padma Vibhushan Sangeet Martand Pt. Jasraj ji is no more. A big loss for the classical music fraternity. I had the honour and privilege to be with Pandit ji on a few occasions. Every time when I met him he embraced me with his friendly and amiable nature. No words to express my deep sense of loss. "Pandit ji your music is immortal and will live on for eternity!"

 

In a career spanning over eight decades, Panditji has left an irreparable void in the Classical Music scenario, as he represented the last of a generation of an era of Indian Classical Musicians.

SPIC MACAY family will be forever indebted to Panditji, and prays for the well being of family and friends at this hour of grief.
