Event Description : THEATRE : Vriksh presents "Thespis 2018" micro-drama festival

Vriksh, a Delhi based registered theatre group, will lift the curtains of its second edition of the pioneering micro-drama festival titled ‘Thespis 2018’.  The one-day festival will be inaugurated at 10.30 a.m. by leading theatre personalities, and will conclude at 6.30 p.m. with the prize distribution in different categories such as best production, best director, best actor, best script and best jury award etc. A book titled-“Short and Sharp- Hues of Micro-drama”, consisting of synopsis and details of all the plays will also be released on the occasion. A unique feature at the festival will be honouring the commitment and objective of Vriksh- Art for Humanity, which will showcase three plays by children of NGOs -Saksham, Deepalaya, and T.K. Mohan’s group.

Keeping with its commitment to highlight the plight of street children, this year’s Thespis festival’s poster was unveiled by a street child at India Gate on the 16th January, 2018 in the presence of Vriksh team members.

Named after the 6th-Century BC actor, Thespis, who is believed to be the first person to have appeared in a play, the festival will stage a string of 10-minute plays. Vriksh received over 46 drama entries, from every region of the country in response to an open entry, out of which 30 best concepts have been shortlisted for presentation at the festival. The plays are in different languages including Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Tamil, Malayalam etc.

VRIKSH was launched on 16th August 2015 at Kerala Club, New Delhi. The name VRIKSH or tree is chosen to broadly symbolize the basic concept of this theatre group. The tree having its roots deeply embedded in the soul of the earth cherishes a dream to touch the sky. The canopied foliage of the tree welcomes everyone and provides shade and shelter to anyone who comes to it. VRIKSH, the theatre aims at uniting people in the name of art cutting across the barriers of religion, caste and politics. VRIKSH, the theatre is envisaged as an umbrella of all theatre artists in Delhi.

Our objectives include producing plays and conducting theatre workshops for children and adults. The motto of VRIKSH is art for humanity by which we intend to utilize theatre for the well-being and welfare of the people. We especially wish to touch the lives of those children whose dreams are waylaid in the streets. We strive to find out novel and innovative means to realize the ideal of an art creation directly benefiting the children living in the streets.

The sapling of Vriksh has just sprouted and with support of its initiatives by the media, members of the theatre group will live the promise to nurture and grow Vriksh into its full splendour. May we kindly request you to include the festival prominently in your events column and listings as well as cover the festival in your esteemed publication/wired news/news portal/TV channel.
