Event Description : DANCE : Neha 'Zooni' Tickoo's "Mangal Murmu's Monologue" based on Hansda Sowvendra Shekhar's 'The Adivasi Will Not Dance'
The strand in this performance emanates not from the process of art making but from the refusal of making art, vehemently and voluntarily and it deals strongly on what may also be called the Artistic Will. The politics of such abject refusal is brilliantly reflected in this story in the form of a monologue by Mangal Murmu, a Santhal performer and artist who, in light of the atrocities done to his Santhal neighbours, decides to turn down the offer of performing in front of the President of India. The performance picks some vital excerpts and uses them as the backdrop, of a dance based performative reading of the story.
