About the documentary film
The film 'Before the Third Bell' seeks to provide a peek into contemporary theatre making in India by documenting the creative processes of 'Muktidham'-a play written and directed by Abhishek Majumdar. In the current 'digitally connected' world, What does professional theatre mean? In today's social, economical and political context, what does it take to create a collective voice in theatre? How does a theatre company approach collaborations and how do artists with different ideas and sensibilities come together to create a piece of theatre? These are some of the questions the film explores while following the creative journey of Muktidham over a period of four months.

About the Film-maker : Basav Biradar is a theatre artist, freelance writer and a documentary filmmaker living in Bangalore. His first play as a playwright, The Return of the Sultan, was long listed for the Hindu Metroplus Playwright award 2013. He has also directed a play in Kannada called, Basava Express. He writes regularly for local newspapers on heritage. His interests include modern history, film, theatre and archival research.
