Event Description : THEATRE : Samvaad Art Group presents Govind Purushottam Deshpande's "Raste" Hindi Play.
About the play : It is a dialectic between various ideologies. The plot traces the lives of the three friends with political drive who graduate from Baroda University.
Gangadhar, the communist becomes a journalist in Pune. His daughter, Durga, sexually liberal feminist, finally joins a radical Communist faction and his son, Madhav constantly struggles between the ideological baggage of his father and his own middle class aspirations. Other friend, Damodar Gokhale, a hindutva nationalist, settles down in U.S. Third friend, Kachu Bhai Shah is a businessman and liberal who also goes to U.S. He gets married but does not have children. He returns to India to work for the upliftment of adivasis.

About the group : Samvaad believes in theatre being a strong medium of interaction with society. It also believes that peace can be restored in these turbulent times through dialogue. Raste is the third production of this group. Before this, they have done a play called 'Jaan Pehchaan' based on the short stories by Anton Chekhov. They also did 'Ajnabee',an adaptation of novel, L'Étranger by Albert Camus.
