About the play : In India, marriage remains a crucial phase of any individual’s life, especially a woman. Women who decide to go against the norm and stay single, are looked at with suspicious raised eyebrows. Ismat Chughtai’s short story Gharwali is a heady satire on this societal norm of marriage. This story explores, intelligently, issues of sexual morality and the hypocrisy surrounding it in Indian society.
Language: Hindi, Urdu
