Event Description : THEATRE : LSR's Dramatics Society presents Vaikom Muhammad Basheer's "Mathilukal" Hindi Play. 

About the play : Set in a women’s prison in the mid-twentieth century, Mathilukal is premised on the idea of hope and follows the imprisonment of a political writer Narayani as she, with her fellow inmates, explores the nuances of confinement and companionship within the walls of the jail. Interspersed with the tales of other inmates, Narayani’s imprisonment takes a particularly new turn with a newfound friendship with a voice from the men's jail across the walls. This adaptation of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer’s novel of the same name, relocates his story to a women’s jail, while retaining at its core the original narrative and tenor.
