Event Description : MOVIE : Open Air Film Night: Season of Change

The three German films in this edition of Open Air Film Night narrate stories of different shades of love and change. The stories could not be more different – an adventure that zigzags between love, death and unbelievable chutzpah; a dysfunctional story about an unlikely couple falling in love and an intimate love story that plunges into the depths of a relationship and reflects the emotional disorientation of an entire generation.

Schedule :

18:30-20:15
Hotel Lux
Director: Leander Haußmann (Germany, colour, 103 min., 2010/11)
Berlin in the 1930s. Comedian and cabaret star Hans Zeisig never fails to crack up his audiences with his Stalin-Hitler-show, performed with his close friend and acting partner Siegfried Meyer, a Jew. With the political atmosphere changing, Meyer joins the Resistance and a few years later, the politically uninterested Zeisig is forced to flee after he gives shelter to Meyer′s beautiful Communist comrade Frida. He sets out for Hollywood, but makes it to Moscow instead, landing at the Hotel Lux.
When Zeisig is reunited with Frida and Meyer, the three embark on an adventure that zigzags between love, death and unbelievable chutzpah... The film boasts a screenplay full of twists and turns and superb performances.

20:30-22:00
Love Steaks
Director: Jakob Lass (Germany, colour, 90 min., 2012/2013)
Clemens starts a new job as a massage therapist in a luxury hotel. He is shy but sensitive and likes to work with his guests' energies. The ladies he massages fall for his hands and make advances to him that throw him off balance. Lara, who works in the kitchen, tries it the hard way. She shakes Clemens up and brings him out of his shell. She is the knife, he is the spoon. Opposites attract. She tries to rid him of his fears, he tries to rid her of her addiction. An unlikely couple falls in love. Dirty, bloody, great and honest.

22:15-00:20
Everyone else (Alle Anderen)
Director: Maren Ade (Germany, colour, 124 min., 2007-2009
This film tells the story of Gitti and Chris, an odd couple who are battling their way through a holiday of secluded togetherness. It is an intimate portrait of two people as they can only be when alone: their secret rituals, their silliness, their unfulfilled dreams and their power struggles. A seemingly unimportant event – an encounter with another couple – serves to destabilise their relationship.
A subtly humorous, cruelly meticulous study of the contradictory desires of a couple searching for their own identity. An intimate love story that plunges into the depths of a relationship and reflects the emotional disorientation of an entire generation. Director Maren Ade says: "I wanted to make a film about the convoluted yet unique entity that is represented by two people in a relationship. The main character of the film is not so much an individual as a couple."
