“God has no religion.” - Mahatma Gandhi
Religious diversity in India is a wonderful facade of our country where people belonging to different cultures, traditions and religions reside together. Every festivity, every celebration related to all the cultures are heartily embraced by everyone around the nation. It is this religious harmony that is important to spread peace and love in humanity. Thus we need to believe in the idea that God has many faces, but he is one unified supreme power and all of us are his children, his believers and his creation.
The conglomeration of several faces of Gods of different religions and beliefs in one place asserts the fact that humanity will progress towards a better tomorrow with peace only if we all work together and maintain the essence of brotherhood. We need to do away with the social barriers which create frictions among humans and divide them.
It is this message of universal love and brotherhood which the artists have intended to bring forward in society at Roop Chand Insitute of Fine Arts. The latest exhibition organised by Roop Chand Art Gallery under the theme “God is One” embraces this very ideology of the harmonious fusion of all the religions which is directed towards universal peace and brotherhood. The exhibition showcases the power of art to bring about change in the world through colours. The artists have coloured their canvases with a beautiful message of universal peace, shunning the division of God in the name of religion. The paintings portray different gods of different religions and all of them coming together at the same place is a perfect metaphor that beauty lies in unity, not division.
All the artists have brilliantly represented their vivid imagination of God through their abundance of talent. The painting byNamish Arora is a commendable approach towards displaying the power of unity, where all religious symbols are casted into a single candle whose luminance shines upon the world, spreading prosperity. Buddha, the face that itself defines peace, is a beautiful creativity submitted by Sunil Kumar Saini. It exhibits how different aspects of all religions are infused in their representative God. The works of Laxman Kumar are perfect examples of the essence of cultural diversity, where he brings together Sikhism, Jainism, Christianity and Hinduism in faces of Guru Nanak Dev, Jesus Christ, Tirthankar Mahavir and Sai Baba, who are known to be the preachers of peace, defying all social taboos. His portrait of goddess Durga Reimburse the power of feminity and its significance in society. Lord Ganesha, who is considered as the most auspicious god of Hindu Mythology, holds a great significance because he is invocated in the beginning of every occasion, are carved onto the canvas with most intricate details by Riya Jain, Ramchandra Pokale and Deepshikha. Aman Anand has spilled the motto of peace and harmony through his monochromatic portrait of Sai Baba, where the figure of Sai emerging in white from the dark background speaks a lot about the aura himself. The portrait of Lord Shiva, who is the most balanced and powerful combination of peace and destruction in a single personality, is displayed in vibrant hues by Himanshu Maan. Shadan Batool’s unique representation of the beauty and grace of Islam combined with beauty is efficiently portrayed through a peaceful message inscribed in Urdu beside a rose, the symbol of purity and beauty. Lord Krishna, the most dignified preacher known across the world, the one who has transcended the boundaries of religion and is believed by millions across the world, is captured in colours by Pooja Bhagat. Sheeba Siddiquithrough her portrait of a Sufi Saint brings forth the significance of the most widely followed belief all around the globe that preaches nothing but peace and unification with God.
The exhibition hence succeeds in spreading the message of the prosperity of humanity and peace with a harmonious unity of all the beliefs of the world. The exhibition is one of a kind as the artists have showcased in a very impactful manner the message of universal peace through their works.
