Event Description : WORKSHOP "Drawing from Life" A Sketching Session in Metro
Register with us for a sketching session in the metro on 25th June, Saturday. 'Drawing from Life' will be an hour long session in the metro where we all will be traveling and sketching from the surroundings, exploring the spontaneity and immediacy vis a vis the act of drawing. We will meet at ITO Metro Station on the Violet Line and go towards Badarpur giving us about an hour to observe and draw together.
Gagan Singh and FICA have collaborated to start a 'Drawing Club' - as part of which the first workshop was conducted on 11th May 2016 at Vadehra Art Gallery, D-53 Defence Colony. The workshop dealt with 'mark making' as a framework to think about the possibilities of drawing. FICA Drawing Club is an open group, with drawing enthusiasts who come together once a month to meet, draw and share their works. It is proposed as an organic series of workshops and engagements for a year long Drawing Club which aim to bring an enquiry on drawing to the fore.
Gagan Singh studied fine art in the UK and has exhibited in various group shows including the Sarai Reader 09 at the Devi Art Foundation, Delhi, 2012 – 2013. The content of the work falls into two broad categories, the autobiographical and the erotic. In both cases, humor acts as a point of access through which other issues, often more serious, are explored by the artist. He is the recipient of Indian Foundation for the Art's Extended Arts Practice Grant and had a solo exhibition in Chatterjee and Lal Gallery, Mumbai in 2014. The key ideas to his art practice are a fascination about drawing.
