Event Description : ​Bhikhari Thakur Repertory presents "Garbha Naad" Hindustani Play. 

About the play : ​The play “Garbha Naad” is a unique experimental creation dealing with the issues of war, violence, trauma, capitalism and how they are played out on the landscape of women’s body. It explores the questions of individual's search for unity and fulfillment, traces the feminine experiences and perspective of these encounters and claimswomen’s agency in different identities and context. The play is a collage of many songs and poems that will be presented on stage through dialogues, music, and physical activities. One of the specialties of the play is the interaction between performers and audience. Performers interact with audience directly not with dialogues only but they interact physically also in the play. This play has been performed in Lahore and Karachi, Pakistan in March 2015 and appreciated by audience extensively.

About the group : Bhikhari Thakur Repertory was founded by great progressive folk theatre artist Bhikhari Thakur (1887-1971) and will complete hundred years next year. From 2012 we a group of artists, scholars and students have attempted to revive the group to establish a platform for the existing artists and further this platform to the new generations. Apart from reviving the folk traditions of this group we have also created a platform for creative modernist intervention to produce similar kinds of experimental works in both modern and folk performances. This group has performed in India as well as abroad, plays based on social, political and other important issues.
