Event Description : THEATRE : Aveksha presents "Kasak (Hindi) & Chaos (English)" Plays

7:00 pm : Kasak
The partition of India in mid-1947 was a result of the negotiations between the British and the Indian leaders, to partition India and grant individual independence to the countries, ending a 200-year long dominion of unified India. This self-scripted musical power play at the uppermost level had a profound effect on society as people knew it, leading to a red period in the country’s history: uprooting of Hindus and Muslims and a religion-based massacre on both sides of the newly-created border. This resulting dislocation and genocide tore apart numerous families, societies and lives in both countries. The suffering, pain and the emotions that flowed during the period are depicted in a compilation of letters, sent over a period of 17 years post-partition, between two close friends who were split up by the Partition, letters that never reached the other side.

7:50 pm : Chaos
Chaos puts forth a stage which brings together numerous individuals with contrasting traits and clashing ideas of morals and values. The play provides a dichotomy of characters as they lock minds over ideas of purity, matriarchy, patriarchy, art, justice, war, grief, joy, courage and loss. Each character tries to assert their beliefs over their polar opposite in a conflict of warring philosophies. In the midst of this ongoing storm is depicted the fascination and musings of artistes as they attempt to comprehend the meaning of life through their talents. The seemingly disjoint sections of the play are brought together by two curious individuals who observe the drama and marvel over human nature and our inclination towards certain emotions. The play aims to provide an insight into our daily existence; our ethics, opinions, aspirations and scruples all thrown together in a singular hurricane which takes over our minds and souls: the chaos of life.
