Event Description : TALK "Impoverished Lives, Crude Apathy" a lecture by Hridayesh Joshi.

Hridayesh Joshi, a senior editor (national affairs) with the NDTV- India, will talk about what is happening in the heart of our country: the state of alienation among an impoverished people in the remotest of Indian villages and the crude apathy of the state. Hridayesh has travelled the remotest of India's villages and brought most appalling stories about malnutrition, poverty and backwardness, lawlessness and the absence of Indian state machinery. His current areas of concerns are the Himalayan ecology, mining, natural resources and rural development.
In the last eight years Hridayesh has consistently covered armed conflict between the Maoists and the Indian state. Beit Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh, he is among the few who reaches the spot first, often walking through the dense forests on foot for days. In 2012 Hridayesh's was given the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Award for his reporting from war zones of central India. He is among the rare journalist who has won the RN Goenka award twice, the first time in 2009 for his reporting from China.
At the height of anti-China tirade in India, Hridayesh showed how there is a bit of India in Chinese hearts. Apart from India being a huge market, Hridayesh saw Indian culture having made deep inroads in the Chinese mind and heart.
During Kedarnash fragedy in 2013 Hridayesh Joshi was among the few reporters who covered the calamily most comprehensively. In fact, he was the first to reach the Kedarnath Shrine and report on the ground situation.
