Event Description : DANCE : Kuchipudi Rangapravesam of Sanjana Jain
Initiated into classical dance at a tender age of 9, Sanjana Jain has now blossomed into a full-fledged artist, ready to perform the Kuchipudi Rangapravesam
Rangapravesam is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘debut’. Ranga means ‘stage’ and Pravesam means entry. 16-year-old Sanjana is the disciple of Drs. Raja Radha & Kaushalya Reddy and has done over 40 performances in India and overseas. Daughter of Vishali and Puneet Jain, Sanjana will begin her performance with Saraswati Vandana written by great and eminent Hindi Poet Suryakanth Tripathi Nirala for worldwide peace, prosperity, progress and fraternity. This will be followed by Mandari Jatiswaram, Krishna Shabdam andPayo Ji Maine Ram Ratandhan Payo. She will also perform on Dev Stuti, a musical composition as an ode in praise of Goddess Parvathi, which will be followed by Tarangam based on Raag Mohan and Taal Adi. The Tarangam marks the climax of a traditional Kuchipudi recital. It depicts famous stories of Krishna’s childhood. This item ends with a display of exquisite virtuosity as the dancers execute intricate footwork patterns by dancing on the rim of a brass plate and coordinate them with complicated rhythmic patterns.
Currently a grade XII student at Modern School, Vasant Vihar, dance is one of the most integral aspects of Sanjana’s life. Her association with Kuchipudi has immensely helped her in imbibing attributes like self-confidence, determination and a disciplined persona. She has performed at the annual 'Parampara Series', 'The Shift', Spic Macay, ‘Old Fort Dance Festival’ and also at the ‘Kalidas Festival’ in Nagpur and the ‘Ganga Mahotsav’ in Varanasi. She has travelled with her gurus and the rest of their troupe to the US in 2015 after finishing her 10th final exams for 15 days and performed at 'Nadha Pravaham’ (San Diego), ‘South India Fine Arts Festival’ (San Jose) and the ‘Thyagaraja Festival’ (Cleveland) in USA in San Diego, San Jose and Cleveland.
Hard-working, versatile and ambitious, Sanjana also plays the piano and has taken exams for the same under Trinity College London - Trinity Guildhall where she passed initial, grade 1, grade 4 and grade 5 with merit and passed grade 2 and grade 3 with distinction and has always stood first in dance competitions held in school. She has a knack for languages and has a Diploma of Spanish from the Institute of Cervantes for level A1 along with a keen interest in Economics and Math and plans to do an Economics major after school.
Her entire family will remain eternally grateful to the legendary gurus for their sheer dedication and support in this enchanted yet enlightening journey. Sanjana strives to continue this endeavour and achieve greater levels of merit in this field with the same drive and devotion. Speaking about her Rangapravesam, Sanjana says, "To do justice to the art, lucid imagination and long hours of practice is required to alter between different spaces to bring forth messages through abhinaya, facial expressions, and nritya, pure dance movement."
