BOOK LAUNCH "Tibet -Theocracy to Democracy" Edited by Dagmar Bernstorff at Siddhartha Hall, Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, 3 Kasturba Gandhi Marg > 7pm on 4th April 2016

Event Description : BOOK LAUNCH "Tibet -Theocracy to Democracy" Edited by Dagmar Bernstorff

The Tibetans in exile are a successful refugee society, integrated in settlements and numerous institutions to preserve their culture in music and dance, art, handicrafts, in schools with Tibetan as medium of instruction, colleges, libraries, centres for learning technical skills and in the University of Higher Tibetan Studies at Sarnath-Benares.

A team of international authors looks at many aspects of the lives of the Tibetan refugees in India, Nepal and Bhutan, coordinated by the Central Tibetan Administration. They try an appraisal of the new secular government since 2011. His Holiness the Dalai Lama granted the editor two interviews which illuminate his ideas about the future of Tibet in the framework of the ‘Middle Way’: genuine autonomy within China. The fight for democracy and Human Rights for Tibetans is based strictly on the principle of non-violence.

The editor Dagmar Bernstorff will be in conversation with Thubten Samphel, Director of the Tibetan Policy Institute, Dharamsala, and Bhuchung D. Sonam, poet and writer, both authors in the book.

In collaboration with: Friedrich Naumann Foundation and Har Anand Publications.
