MAGAZINE LAUNCH & TALK "Boundary Breaking Graphic Arts in Queer India" at Siddhartha Hall, Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, 3 Kasturba Gandhi Marg > 7pm-8:30pm on 21st January 2016

Event Description : The latest issue of The Gaysi Zine, a self-published annual journal by Gaysi Family, is a Graphic Anthology, which explores the subject of Queerness through the unique hybrid form of reading that employs visual-verbal literacy and rhetoric. This issue is both a retelling and an active work of various artists’ and writers’ attempt to sort through their own identity and acknowledge the queer element in their lives - the choices that fall outside the heterosexual hegemony.

The Gaysi Zine was conceptualised in 2011 with the intent to prod and poke an existence outside of the heterosexual project: What it means to be Queer? Where is Queer seen? Who is Queer? Is Queerness a performance? How can it serve as a socio-cultural critique?

The Gaysi Zine takes this intent forward by holding a conversation titled Boundary Breaking Graphic Arts in Queer India, which seeks to understand graphic as a space for performative text, and how the discourse of Queer is moving beyond the cauldron of Indian Queer Literature.

Panelists:

Harshit Vishwakarma is a designer, diagramatist & moving images artist presently doing multiple somersaults at Wieden+Kennedy, Delhi.
