Event Description : 
The British Council in association with the Alkazi Foundation for the Arts is delighted to invite you for a talk on Contemporary Photography in the UK: Practice, Patronage and Evolution by Malcolm Dickson, Creative Director, Street Level Photoworks in conversation with Rahaab Allana, Curator, PhotoUKIndia. 


As part of EXHIBITION "PhotoUKIndia : Origins" a photography exhibition featuring 31 artists and 6 authors at British Council, 17, Kasturba Gandhi Marg > 15th October 2015 to 3rd January 2016

The talk will be followed by a reception in the Charbagh.

Malcom Dickson, Creative Director of Street Level Photoworks, UK, will present an interactive talk on "Contemporary Photography Practices in the UK". Malcolm will be joined in conversation with Rahaab Allana, curator of the PhotoUKIndia exhibition. The hour-long session will take us through the evolution, cultural practices and curatorial approach towards photography in the UK. The talk will look at the patronage and evolution of photography in Scotland and other parts of the UK. 

ABOUT MALCOLM DICKSON:
Malcolm Dickson is a curator, writer and organiser. As Director of Street Level Photoworks, he coordinates a programme which embraces different genres of photography in its galleries in the arts hub Trongate 103 in Glasgow. It works to extend the reach of its exhibitions in local and community venues, regional art galleries, and through national and international partners. Recent curated projects include: 

Tabula Rasa for Kaunas Photography Gallery; Maud Sulter – Passion, Working the Border for Carlisle Photo Festival, Common Ground: New Documentary Photography from Scotland and Wales featuring Document Scotland and A Fine Beginning photography collectives
