Event Description : Dance Culture Performing Arts Academy presents "Lakshman Rekha" A Contemporary Dance & Physical theatre.
LAKSHMAN REKHA depicts the human rights of speech, thought & deed. The role of a man, the role of a woman, the role of a citizen. Their duties, their responsibilities. What every one should do, like and think is often already set in the society. Freedom of speech in democracy is also preset and life becomes living in between lines. People look neat inside the frames of set cultured lives. Can we come out of these frames? Can we cross these lines?
Lakshamana drew such a line for Sita which she crossed and was abducted by the powerful and evil Ravana. She should have just stayed inside and all would have been fine. A woman is ‘allowed’ to be free, ‘allowed’ to work and ‘allowed’ to be independent. Should a homosexual pretend to become straight for the society? Does a man have to work outside to earn his dignity? Today the freedom of speech is rampant. But who is listening? Are we really living our lives the way we want or is it just an illusion? We are all entangled these lines (rekha), constantly creating more for other people and getting entangled in our own.

Direction & choreography by : Contemporary Dance Guru Pritpal Singh
