Event Description : India cheers for PM Modi ahead of visit to UN General Assembly
Raghu Dixit to perform at Purana Quila for Light the Way event.
Delhi will see an exhilarating performance by Raghu Dixit at a one-off ‘Light the way’ event at Purana Quila. He will join thousands of Indian citizens to cheer the Prime Minister, as he arrives in New York to attend the UN General Assembly. Alongside other world leaders, PM Modi will sign the new Global Goals, which aim to tackle poverty, inequality and climate change over the next fifteen years. The event is being presented by Seher, organisers of the South Asian Bands festival and Delhi Jazz Festival. The event will include a unique laser light show, illuminating Purana Quila and bringing alive the story of the Global Goals.
The voices of India’s people and images from Light the Way will travel to the streets of New York. Here they will light up screens at a huge event outside the UN, and will be seen by the world’s most powerful leaders, including PM Modi, inside the UN itself.
Organised by Action 2015, Save the Children and United Nations.
Excited about his upcoming performance, Raghu Dixit said, “PM’s visit to UNGA is a momentous occasion for every Indian. The commitment he makes there, will impact each one of us for generations to come. It is a privilege to be part of an event that sends the message directly to our leader, that the country supports him and is depending upon him to ensure a better future for the people and the planet.”
The action/2015 campaign has already received high-profile support from Indian and Global celebrities including Malala Yousafzai, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Bill Gates, One Direction, Shakira, Hugh Jackman, Richard Branson, Bono, Richard Curtis, Kate Moss, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, A R Rahman, Sonam Kapoor, Chetan Bhagat, Yuvraj Singh, Shabana Azmi, Parineeti Chopra, Gul Panag and many more.
Countries across the globe will follow India’s lead by holding their events at iconic locations like Sydney Opera House and Millennium Bridge in London. Events will also be held in many states across India. All the events will be united through the concept of light in it various forms.
This event is a culmination of activities throughout 2015, which has united millions of Indians in actions such as sending postcards to PM, signature campaigns, community events etc., all giving out a singular message that the country to looking up to PM Modi for a better future for its people.
