The Quest: Taking art to spiritual level
SV Rama Rao perceives the supreme force in colours
Noida, Aug 19-- Art Life Gallery has unveiled a solo show titled “The Quest“ by Padmasri awardee Dr SV Rama Rao on Wednesday at the gallery premises. The month-long show was inaugurated by the culture minister Shri Mahesh Sharma.
The show is a tribute to our 69 years of independence. Incidentally, this is Rama Rao's first-ever solo show in Noida, to hail the blooming scene of art in Noida, that is growing in leaps and bounds now.
“The depiction of river Ganga, its flow and the fire of the yagya-vedi (holy fire) trying to touch the sky all portray spiritualism of the artist,” Culture minister Mahesh Sharma, said.
Explaining the series of the paintings on exhibition, Pratibha Agarwal, the co-promoter and curator of the show says, “Dr Rama Rao brings alive his dreams on canvas. In the present series of abstracts, he shows a musical performance entwining the perennial water of rivers with the fish depicting life. The fish like life just swims with the current of water, as all humans flow with time. The paintings very articulately depict everlasting glow of the divine light on the waves of the rivers and the ethereal wind playing a colourful eternal dance.”
Dr Rama Rao, a nature lover, a music enthusiast, a poet, who has taught fine arts in UK and USA says, “my paintings are based on rivers, meadows, clouds, mountains, skies with tinges of various colours and many dimensions. I visualise my paintings as if I am gazing at the earth while flying in the sky. The soothing sight of water or “jal” from the sky is remarkable, as I see from my spiritual eyes. Water which is a life-giving element cleanses our body, quenches our thirst and we need to respect and value it, be it a river, pond or sea. It is the elixir of life.
Explaining another painting which is mostly black with only tinges of colour, Dr Rama Rao says, “It is after the ‘yagya’ is done that the ashes and black wood is left behind. But even as using black was difficult, I used it profusely to give it a depth to other colours.”
"The Persian blue and crimson lake colours combined together give the feeling of golden clouds during the sun set. As the ideas emerge and flow in the mid-air, so the ideas from my mind emerge and pour on the canvas looking at the fiesta of the vastness of this earth. I feel as if I am astronaut who looks at the hidden mystery of the world," says Dr Rama Rao.
Fire or Agni is a major element that plays a prominent role in his series in this show. "Again, it has eternal and perishable elements. The essential character of Fire is to generate heat. According to Hindu mythology, Agni is one of the Eight guardians who guards our universe known as Dik Palakas. It is important that we see the little flames spread across in the works," Dr Rama Rao explains.
