“Lal Ded” a play in Hindi, English & Kashmiri by Meeta Vasisht.

LAL DED, the great woman mystic and poet of Kashmir of the 14th century, whose presence continues to reverberate in the Kashmiris’  heart and mind, both Hindus and Muslims, from seven hundred years ago right up to the present day.

  - “Meeta Vashist mesmerized us with the life  and poetic utterances (vaakhs) of Lal Ded, the 14th century Kashmiri mystic who also lived in times of religious turbulence, but rose above it all with an all-encompassing love for humankind. Lal Ded lives on through her verses as a precious legacy of all Kashmiris, Hindus and Muslims alike.

Meeta Vashist brings together extraordinary theatrical skills ……….

A play that would lead to an extraordinary engagement with the phenomenal persona of this fabulous poetess: her poetry and her amazing life, and, the great civilization that Kashmir represented, going all the way back to 2500 years and beyond: of a tradition of art, science, astronomy, mathematics, medicine and just about every field of knowledge and learning, with an incredible ability to host several religions and a shared culture…It is an affirmation of everything that is worth affirming in the times we are having to deal with today.
