Rang Swarn, BC Pal Auditorium, Chittaranjan Park, New Delhi
Duration: 38 minutes
Synopsis:
Zohra Segal as Manthara
The Legend of Rama (English)
Directed by Aamir Raza Husain
In this version of the epic, the author’s conception of Manthara’s role is not as a hunchbacked servant, but rather as a lady of the court who has brought up the princess from childhood. This is the opening scene of the play where Queen Kaikeyi is preparing to celebrate Rama’s forthcoming coronation. Manthara riles and mocks the queen and persuades her to redeem the two boons promised by King Dasharatha. The Queen’s dialogues interspersed with Manthara’s have to be imagined.

Zohra Segal as Granny Toronto
Rice Boy (English)
Directed by Micheline Chevrier
Written by Sunil Kuruvilla
Granny teaches her granddaughter Teena the art of making rice patterns on the floor. She keeps forgetting that her husband has died recently, until reminded by Teena.
Granny appears in a nightmare to her son, taunting him for having lost his wife in a drowning accident.

Zohra Segal as the Nani
Aik Thee Nani (Urdu)
Directed by Madeeha Gauhar
Playwright: Shahid Nadeem
The Nani (maternal grandmother) from India who visits Pakistan finds her granddaughter Sabeen yearning to become a stage artist, but hampered in doing so by her fundamental Dadi (paternal grandmother). The Nani manipulates the history teacher to teach Sabeen music, and in this scene Nani instructs her in the basics of dance.

Zohra Segal as Chandramukhi Devdas
The Spirit of Anne Frank (English)
Directed by Roysten Abel
Dialogue: Zohra Segal
Four young women and an elderly retired history teacher are travelling in a ladies railway compartment from Bombay to Baroda. After the others have related their romances, Chandramukhi comes out with her life story.

Zohra Segal as a Freedom Fighter
The Indian Mutiny of 1857 (Urdu)
Directed by: M.K. Raina
Written by Gauhar Raza
It is the eve of 11 May, the year 1997, exactly one hundred and forty years after the Indian Mutiny.
The Red Fort is lit by floodlights. A stage in front bears life size posters of freedom fighters such as Tantia Tope, Bhagat Singh, Rani Jhansi, and others. A mammoth crowd of spectators has gathered to watch. The groups of actors are presenting a visual enactment of the night. The voices of the actors describe the exploits of the freedom fighters.

Suddenly, sepoys wearing the British army uniform of 1857 encircle the crowd and gallop full speed into the fort. A loud drum booms forth as a woman freedom fighter walks onto the stage and addresses the spectators.
